ETS design and development processes pay close attention to customer needs, adhere to stringent quality standards, and include pre-testing to deliver error-free solutions.
ETS designs, develops, administers and scores more than 24 million tests annually. In creating a test design, ETS employs the Evidence-Centred Design (ECD) model for test development. ECD, an intellectual discipline created at ETS, is defined by three components: claims, evidence, and tasks. For test development we follow a well-documented process that adheres to stringent quality standards. Our emphasis on customer needs translates into careful attention to client input when designing and developing assessments. We can also use existing concepts of our solutions and tests to develop adapted versions by taking cultural differences into account. Other important considerations include attention to detail to ensure fairness, and pre-testing to deliver error-free assessments. The process is supported by scientific validation and empirical evidence at every step, from test design through development, delivery and scoring. This is an imperative for an organisation that aims to deliver world-class products. Hence, a typical ETS test undergoes two dozen reviews and quality assurance steps before being released for use to clients.
